This fall, two of Greenville’s private Christian schools are joining forces to operate as one preschool – high school program across two campuses.

First Presbyterian Academy and Shannon Forest Christian School will operate under the title of First Presbyterian Academy, Inc. Beginning with the 2019 – 2020 academic year, the school will hold classes at its two locations, The Academy Downtown and The Academy at Shannon Forest.

“We have had for years and years a very strong preschool program at First Presbyterian,” Dixon Cunningham, Board Chair of First Presbyterian Academy, said. “Beginning in 2007, we started an elementary school with three students in the first grade. Now, it’s up over 100 in the five elementary grades. A few years ago, we started a middle school. Doing a middle school in landlocked downtown is a little rough.”

The ultimate plan was to continue through high school at a location within five miles of the downtown campus. Shannon Forest is actually about 10 miles away, Cunningham said, but the collaboration makes sense. The Academy Downtown, located at the campus of First Presbyterian Church, will house K2 – K5 classes and a transitional K6 class. Students will then be able to transition to The Academy at Shannon Forest on Garlington Road, which will house a fully-accredited, college-preparatory program for students in K3 – 12. Enrollment is open for the upcoming school year.

“Folks that start with us in preschool can have a program that goes all the way through high school,” Cunningham said.
