Weekend events for families: Good News Spectacular, more
It’s expected to be a rainy weekend, but the good news is, there is still indoor fun on tap for families in the Upstate.
The Good News Spectacular returns to Greenville 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Greenville Convention Center. This free community event offers games, inflatables, live interactive shows, and snacks indoors for all families in a 125,000-square-foot space. The event is sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship of SC – Greenville. For more details, visit www.goodnewsspectacular.com.
“Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse,” a South Carolina Children’s Theatre 2ND Stage Production, continues this weekend with shows at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at The Kroc Center. Meet Lilly, “Queen of the World” and lover of everything. She loves cheese snacks, her bff’s Wilson and Chester and especially her brand new purse that plays music whenever it’s opened. It gets her in a little trouble. However, she learns that making mistakes is all part of growing up. This play is best for ages 4 and older. For tickets and details, visit scchildrenstheatre.org.
Families and friends can still grab cardboard and duct tape to participate in the annual Cardboard Regatta 2-5 p.m. Saturday at Greenville County Aquatic Complex. Teams will race in boats they’ve hand-built using cardboard. Rules and applications are available at https://greenvillerec.com/event/cardboard- regatta. Cost is $15 per entry for Scouts, schools, and family boats.
Mauldin United Methodist Church will host a Youth Job Connection 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. Youth can stop by anytime throughout the day for a brief 15-minute presentation on the keys to success in finding, getting and keeping a job. A Nature Learning Center Open House is 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday at the South Carolina Botanical Garden. The event includes hands-on activities. The Hunt Cabin will also be open 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Learn about life in 19th century South Carolina. Hands-on activities are included. Free, but donations for outreach are welcome.
